Rods, reels, bait, tackle, ice, light snacks and water are included on every fishing trip. A deposit holds your date and the balance is due the day of the trip. Gratuity for the captain and deckhand is customary at 15–25%.

Common questions
What is included in a charter?
All rods, reels, tackle and lures are provided, along with water, Gatorade and light snacks, a cooler with ice for your own food and drinks, insulated fish holds and a kill bag, and filet service that keeps your catch sushi grade. Fish processing, freezing and shipping can be arranged for an additional fee.
What time should I arrive?
Plan to be at the dock at Seaforth Marina in Mission Bay at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure so we can load gear, cover the safety briefing and leave on time. Departure times are set with Captain Pablo when you book — full-day and overnight trips often leave before sunrise.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Captain Pablo makes the final weather call. If conditions are unsafe we reschedule your trip for the next available date, or refund your deposit if no date works. Trips are rarely cancelled for wind alone — we frequently move to protected water inside the kelp or along the coast.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. Everyone 16 and older needs a California fishing license for U.S. waters. Trips into Mexican waters, including the Coronado Islands, also require a Mexican fishing license and a passport, plus a biosphere bracelet ($8) and FMM land mass visa ($30).
How many people can come aboard?
The Kate Elizabeth is a 6-pack charter, so up to six guests plus crew. Smaller groups fish more comfortably, and larger parties can be split across multiple days or coordinated with a second boat — just ask the captain.
Can I bring my own rods and gear?
You can bring up to two rods per person, but the number and types of rods and reels must be approved by the crew in advance. Leave long range tackle boxes and large coolers in your vehicle — we keep the boat light so there is ample room to fish.
What if I get seasick?
Talk to your physician about a patch, or take Dramamine at least a few hours before departure — not after we leave the dock. Eat a light meal, stay hydrated and get a good night of sleep before your trip.
Can beginners and kids fish with you?
Absolutely. Captain Pablo shares every strategy and tactic on board, so first-timers leave knowing more than when they arrived. Inshore and bay trips are a great fit for kids and new anglers.

What a private San Diego fishing charter really costs
Fernandez Charters prices are per trip, not per person. You are chartering the whole Kate Elizabeth — a six-pack boat licensed for private charters out of Seaforth Marina in Mission Bay — so four friends fishing a local half day split one flat rate instead of paying a party-boat ticket each.
Local inshore days along La Jolla, Point Loma and the 9 Mile Bank are the least expensive way to get on fish. Coronado Islands runs cost more because of the distance, the fuel and the Mexican paperwork, and offshore tuna trips are priced for long days chasing bluefin and yellowfin far off San Diego. Extended island and overnight runs sit at the top of the range.
